How did you start getting into video?

I started getting into video when I was a sophomore in high school. I took a digital media class and one of the topics we were learning about was video. I made a couple videos for that class and at the end of my sophomore year I got an offer to be the Tech for Student Government. Once I became the tech, I started learning a little more and got more involved in making videos regularly.

How did you get your job with UVU Athletics?

When I graduated from high school in 2017, I applied to be a Social Media Manager for a work study job. In my interview I talked about how I knew a little bit about video from high school. Once I got hired, I was actually hired as a video specialist and started learning how to film at games and how to edit video “better”. So I orginally didn’t apply for video, but I’m really happy I got the chance to be with the video team, because it has become a true passion of mine and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

What’s the best way to get better at video?

Practice. Practice. Practice. You can only get better if you keep working and trying to become better. You have to get out there and experiment and try new things. The more you film and edit, the better you become. No one starts out as the best. We all work to get where we want to go.

How do get I get into video?

Watch YouTube videos, follow videographers on social media, and just get out there. You can only learn so much from YouTube, for me personally the best way I got into it was just to go for it. In the beginning it was tough, but I learned from on of my coworkers and just kept practicing and trying new things. So the best way to get into video is to just jump into it and start trying things out and finding what aspects you truly enjoy.
